Industrial gas applications cover the “all other” compressed gases which include helium, nitrogen, breathing air, carbon monoxide, and some high density chemical gases such as SF6, CF4 where replacing heavy steel tubes with lightweight composite cylinders increases the overall payload.
Each gas has its own story and unique application(s), but some of the more popular ones are:
Helium mini-bulk trailers: Similar to micro-bulk supply tanks for LIN, LCO2, and LAR, composite cylinder based transports now make it possible for micro-bulk deliveries of high pressure gases such as helium. This approach is slowly being adopted as alternative to reduce the handling of cylinders and reduce cylinder delivery traffic and increase safety in retail locations. These high pressure trailers, up to 6,500psig, allow gas distributors to fill cylinders located outside of a customer’s business or inside the business through a remote fill panel without the use of compressors. This approach has immediate cost savings for helium distributors and increased customer satisfaction.
Carbon monoxide: Composite cylinder trailers overcome the restrictive fill pressures of CO in traditional steel cylinders. The aluminum 6061 aluminum liners in composite cylinders can safely be pressurized to 3,600psig which provides increased payloads, lighter packaging, the ability to fill smaller steel cylinders without the aid of a compressor.
Breathing air: Using composite trailers to deliver breathing air is popular during plat shutdowns and allows the trailer to get closer to work areas, minimize long hose runs, and move sizable air volumes with only a pick-up truck instead of larger semi-trucks usually saving money and providing added convenience to the end user.
Specialty Transports and Cylinders
In addition to the traditional composite gas transports, GTL leases a range of other specialty, high pressure, gas storage products along with selected, specialty steel cylinders for niche industries.
Other specialty gas storage products include Luxfer-GTM’s G-Pak and G-PakXL along with the MicroRefueler line of products for refilling small, high pressure cylinders for drone and fuel cell applications.
Specialty steel cylinders encompass cylinders used in the storage of hydrogen for fuel cell back-up power applications as used in the cellular industry, Y-cylinders for bulk semiconductor gases such as ammonia, and other applications.
